The short version
DanakilDepression.com participates in the GetYourGuide affiliate programme and in the Trip.com affiliate programme. If you click a tour or hotel link on this site and go on to book, we may earn a commission from that partner. You pay exactly the same price as you would going to them directly — the commission comes out of the partner's margin, never out of your pocket.
Which links are affiliate links
Every link to a tour, ticket or activity on GetYourGuide is an affiliate link, as is every hotel link to Trip.com. These links are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page code and open in a new tab. Links to Wikipedia, government travel advice, official visa portals and other reference sources are not affiliate links and earn us nothing.
How it affects what we recommend
It does not. We rank tours by how well they work for the traveller — the itinerary, the gateway city, what is included, whether the pacing is realistic in extreme heat. Commission rates on GetYourGuide are broadly similar across products, so there is no financial reason to push one tour over another, and we would make the same recommendations if the programme paid nothing.
What we are not
We are not a travel agency and we do not take bookings, payments or personal data for trips. Your contract is with GetYourGuide and the tour operator, or with Trip.com and the hotel. Cancellations, refunds, itinerary changes and complaints are handled by them, and their terms apply.
No paid placements
We do not sell positions in our rankings, sponsored posts or "featured operator" slots, and no operator has paid to appear on this site. If that ever changes, it will be labelled unmistakably on the page in question.
